 Is this the same as a standard 9-pin COM port? No. While the shell size is similar, a standard COM port (DE-9) has 2 rows and 9 pins. This high-density version has 3 rows and 15 pins.

How do I know which one I need? Check your existing cable or port. If it has pins sticking out, you need the EHDS-15F (Socket) to receive it. If it has holes, you need the EHDS-15M (Plug).

 Do I need special tools for assembly? These are solder-type connectors. You will need a soldering iron and fine-gauge wire to make the connections to the solder buckets on the back.
