Is this the same as a wall socket?
No. This is an inline connector meant to be attached to the end of a cable. It is used to create "extension-style" connections rather than being mounted into a wall.
Will it work with a 3-pin plug?
No. This socket only has entries for two pins. A 3-pin plug (with an earth pin) will not fit. It is designed specifically for ungrounded 2-pin devices.
