Omoda C9 PHEV: Flagship Plug-in Hybrid SUV Set for Q2 Launch

Omoda Malaysia has revealed estimated pricing for the upcoming Omoda C9 PHEV, positioning the flagship plug-in hybrid SUV at around RM220,000. This places it notably higher than the regular C9 AWD petrol model priced at RM188,800, although, in line with the brand’s previous launches, the final on-the-road price is expected to be lower when the model officially goes on sale.

To entice early adopters, Omoda & Jaecoo is offering a “Super Early Bird” package worth RM4,618 for customers who place bookings ahead of the launch. The package includes a RM3,888 rebate, alongside a complimentary vehicle-to-load (V2L) connector cable valued at RM730, allowing the SUV to power external electrical devices.

While no official launch date has been announced, the Omoda C9 PHEV is widely expected to arrive in Q2 2026, between April and June, following the brand’s confirmation that multiple new models will be introduced throughout the year.

Under the bonnet, the Omoda C9 PHEV features a sophisticated plug-in hybrid setup centred around a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 143 PS and 215 Nm. This is paired with three electric motors, comprising a 102 PS/170 Nm P2 motor and a 122 PS/220 Nm P2.5 traction motor at the front, as well as a 230 PS/310 Nm motor driving the rear wheels, giving the SUV all-wheel drive capability.

Combined, the system delivers an impressive 537 PS and 650 Nm of torque, enabling the C9 PHEV to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds, despite a relatively modest top speed of 179 km/h. Power is sent through a new three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), replacing the single-speed unit used in the J7 PHEV and allowing the petrol engine to assist more effectively at lower speeds for improved acceleration.

Energy storage comes from a 34 kWh NMC battery, which provides a WLTP-rated pure electric driving range of 145 km. When combined with a 70-litre fuel tank, the C9 PHEV boasts a claimed total driving range of 1,100 km. In real-world testing, the model has demonstrated even greater capability, achieving an effective range of up to 1,190 km.

In terms of efficiency, fuel consumption is rated at just 1.4 litres per 100 km with a fully charged battery. Once the battery charge drops to around 20%, consumption increases to 6.5 litres per 100 km, still competitive for a large performance-oriented SUV.

Charging support is also comprehensive, with DC fast charging of up to 70 kW, allowing the battery to be replenished from 30 to 80% in approximately 25 minutes. For home or public AC charging, the C9 PHEV supports 6.6 kW, enabling a 30 to 100% charge in around 5.5 hours.
