Reflecting on my years of collaboration with the media, the most profound realization has been witnessing the transformation of Malaysia’s nutritional landscape—moving from a state of "information chaos" toward professional standardisation.
Years ago, the concept of a "Registered Nutritionist" was largely unrecognized by the general public. At that time, many guests invited by the media lacked formal professional qualifications. The health information being broadcast was often unverified, cluttered, and in many cases, outright false. Seeing how these misconceptions misled the public, I realized that as a professional, my duty wasn't just to stay in a clinic, but to step into the spotlight and advocate for science-based truth.
I had the privilege of pioneering Malaysia’s first nutrition-focused television program, marking the first time professional nutritional expertise was systematically introduced to mainstream media. Following this, I founded the nation’s first online alliance of dietitians to streamline public education, ensuring that health information was no longer fragmented but presented through a structured, credible system.
My journey then expanded into print media. Transitioning from a guest speaker to a columnist and coordinator for Sin Chew Daily’s "Health" (医识力) section, I took on the responsibility of curating content and planning columns. In the world of print, I insist that every article must withstand scientific scrutiny, translating complex nutritional theories into practical, everyday advice for the dining table.
Whether sharing insights on Astro AEC’s Veggie Delight 2, leading over 300 seminars, or meticulously drafting newspaper columns, my roles have evolved, but my original intent remains unchanged. The media should not just be a broadcaster of information; it must be a gatekeeper of truth.
Closing Thoughts: For me, collaborating with the media is more than just a professional milestone; it is a heavy social responsibility. I will continue to stand firm in my professional field, building a solid and trustworthy defense for public nutrition amidst the noise of the digital age.
