Will this motor work with my 18V drill battery? Yes. Since this motor is rated up to 24V, it can safely handle the output of standard 12V, 14.4V, and 18V power tool batteries. Running it at 18V will provide significantly more speed and power than running it at 12V.
Why does the motor spark slightly when I turn it on? Small sparks inside the motor (near the brushes) are normal for brushed DC motors during startup and heavy load. This is part of the standard electrical commutation process.
Does it matter which way I connect the wires? Connecting the wires one way will make the motor spin clockwise; swapping them will make it spin counter-clockwise. For drill applications, ensure the rotation matches your gearbox direction.
