In the high-density computing environments of Kuala Lumpur, efficient airflow management is the difference between a high-performing data centre and an expensive, overheating liability. The goal is simple but technically demanding: separate the cold supply air from the hot exhaust air. When these two streams mix (bypass air or recirculation), the cooling system must work harder, driving up your Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and risking server "thermal trips."
EKG M&E Sdn Bhd specializes in precision airflow architecture, ensuring your facility meets ASHRAE TC 9.9 thermal guidelines.
As an HVAC and Clean Air Specialist, we implement containment to physically isolate air streams:
Cold Aisle Containment (CAC): We seal the "Cold Aisle" using roof panels and end-of-row doors. The entire aisle becomes a pressurized cold air plenum.
Benefit: Servers always pull uniformly chilled air, regardless of their position in the rack.
Hot Aisle Containment (HAC): We chimney the hot exhaust from the back of the servers directly into the ceiling plenum or back to the CRAH/CRAC units.
Benefit: Allows the rest of the room to remain at a comfortable "ambient" temperature and enables the cooling units to operate at a higher, more efficient return-air temperature.
Even with containment, "leaky" racks can sabotage efficiency. We perform a "Tightness Audit" to address:
Blanking Panels: We install solid panels in every unoccupied "U" space. Without them, cold air bypasses the servers and hot air recirculates into the intake.
Brush Strips & Gland Sealing: Cable entries in raised floors are major sources of pressure loss. We use specialized brush seals to maintain underfloor static pressure.
Floor Tile Optimization: We use CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to place perforated tiles only where they are needed, preventing "over-cooling" of empty areas.
In Malaysia’s variable IT load environments, a "fixed-speed" fan is an energy waste. We utilize Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to turn the airflow into a dynamic safety system:
| Airflow Issue | VFD Solution | Result |
| Variable IT Load | Underfloor pressure sensors signal the VFD to slow down or speed up fans. | Constant static pressure; up to 30% energy savings. |
| Filter Loading | VFD ramps up to maintain CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) as filters get dirty. | Consistent cooling performance until next maintenance. |
| Resonance/Noise | We program "Skip Frequencies" to avoid mechanical vibration. | Extended bearing life and reduced acoustic stress. |
We don't guess—we measure. Our airflow management includes:
Delta-T ($\Delta T$) Monitoring: We track the temperature difference between the supply and return air. A low $\Delta T$ often indicates air bypass, while a very high $\Delta T$ suggests insufficient airflow.
Vibration Health Check: High-velocity airflow is driven by heavy-duty blowers. we perform Vibration Analysis to ensure that the fans maintaining your pressure plenum aren't on the verge of mechanical failure.
Thermal Imaging: We use infrared scans to find "Hot Spots" caused by cable congestion blocking the airflow at the rear of the server racks.
PUE Optimization: We focus on the "low-hanging fruit" of airflow management (blanking, sealing, and VFD tuning) to provide immediate ROI on your electricity bill.
Turnkey MEP Execution: From installing the Raised Access Floor to commissioning the Precision Air Conditioning (PAC), we manage the entire thermal loop.
34-Year Legacy: Based in Kuala Lumpur, we have designed and maintained stable environments for some of Malaysia's most critical financial and telecommunications hubs.
