Soft - recommended for mild chewing, individuals with low oral tone, or individuals with limited jaw strength just learning to bite and chew.
Medium - These are firmer, but still fairly chewy. Recommended for moderate chewers.
Very firm (tough) - These are the most firm and provide the most resistance to the jaw. Aggressive chewer
Use the Y-Chew as an oral fidget for sensory seekers who crave chewing, or for anyone who needs to chew for any reason
(as a safe alternative to biting your nails or grinding your teeth, as way for individuals fed via g-tube to still be able to chew on something orally, and so forth).
The Y-Chew is also a staple oral motor / feeding therapy tool. Use it to practice biting/chewing skills without the risk of choking,
or to work on jaw strength and stability, or to help decrease oral sensitivities / food aversions.
For individuals with low oral tone / limited jaw strength, start with the soft one and graduate to the harder one to gradually build oral strength.
It's a very simple yet versatile tool with many different uses.
Each arm extension has its own texture (smooth, ribbed, or bumpy) for a varied sensory experience. Use the Y-Chew® to exercise the lips, tongue, cheeks,
and especially the jaw, allowing the mouth to learn and grow strong through oral exploration
Y chew can be use to teach Lip Closure. Why is Lip Closure important?:
⦿ Being able to close one's lips around a straw, spoon, a piece of food, etc.
⦿ Being able to pronounce the speech sounds /p/, /b/, and /m/
⦿ Being able to chew food with one's lips closed so that food stays inside the mouth
⦿ To prevent drooling (poor lip closure can be one reason why some children drool)
⦿ Correct oral resting posture - lips are closed when our mouth is at rest (when we're not eating, drinking, or speaking)
It can also be used:
⦿ As an oral fidget for sensory seekers craving oral input and stimulation
⦿ As a safe alternative to biting/chewing on fingers, shirts, and other hazardous non-food items
⦿ To decrease thumb sucking, tooth grinding, and finger/knuckle biting
⦿ To practice biting/chewing skills without the risk of choking
⦿ To improve jaw strength, jaw stability, tongue movement, and other feeding skills
⦿ To build oral tone, strength, mobility, control, coordination, and endurance
⦿ To decrease oral sensitivities, oral defensiveness, and food aversions
Recommended for children 3 years and up.
