Instructions for 74HC138 DIP-16:
- Power Supply: Connect pin 8 (VCC) to +5V and pin 1 (GND) to ground.
- Enable Inputs: To activate the decoder, set at least one of the enable inputs (E1, E2, E3) low. All three must be low for normal operation.
- Address Inputs: Apply binary input signals to pins A, B, and C to select which output line should go low. The outputs are active low.
- Outputs: The device has eight active-low decoded outputs (Y0-Y7). Only one output is low at any given time based on the address inputs and enable conditions. If an invalid or out-of-range address is applied, all outputs remain high.
- Handling Unused Outputs: Ensure that unused outputs are either left open or connected to a pull-up resistor if interfacing with logic that requires active-high signals.
