Overview: Temporary Class A PQ Investigation

PQube 3 Portable is used where a permanent analyser is not required or where the monitoring point changes from site to site. It gives engineers a practical way to capture voltage sags, swells, interruptions, harmonics, transients, conducted emissions, energy consumption and load behaviour during a defined investigation period.

It can operate as a standalone logger using USB for configuration and data download. When connected to a network, it can send event notifications and daily, weekly or monthly reports directly to users, helping reduce repeated site visits and manual data extraction.

Key positioning

PQube 3 Portable is best positioned as a portable Class A power quality analyser for fast deployment, temporary monitoring, troubleshooting, commissioning support and engineering investigation.

How PQube 3 Portable Supports Investigations

Power quality events are often intermittent. PQube 3 Portable helps engineers leave the analyser at site long enough to capture the real event, then convert the evidence into a useful report.

1. Deploy Install fused voltage leads and flexible CTs at the selected monitoring point.
2. Auto Detect Detect nominal voltage, frequency and wiring configuration.
3. Record Capture sags, swells, interruptions, harmonics, transients and energy trends.
4. Report Download by USB or receive event and scheduled reports over network.
5. Act Use evidence for root-cause analysis, corrective action and monitoring plan.

Why Use PQube 3 Portable?

Many power quality problems are intermittent. They may not happen during a short site visit, and they may not be captured by normal power meters. PQube 3 Portable gives engineers a practical way to leave a Class A analyser at site long enough to capture the real event.

  • Faster deployment compared with permanent panel installation.
  • Captures real power quality events during normal operation.
  • Provides waveform evidence instead of assumptions.
  • Supports power quality, energy and environmental correlation.
  • Can be moved between different sites or feeders.
  • Useful before deciding on permanent PQ monitoring points.

Integration with IoTWatt 4.0 and Monitoring Systems

PQube 3 Portable can be used together with IoTWatt 4.0 during power quality investigations and temporary monitoring projects. PQube 3 provides high-resolution PQ event data, while IoTWatt 4.0 can provide energy dashboards, equipment trends, tickets and longer-term operational context.

  • Use PQube 3 Portable for temporary high-resolution event capture.
  • Use IoTWatt 4.0 for ongoing energy and equipment analytics.
  • Correlate PQ events with production, energy and operational behaviour.
  • Support energy audits, EECA reporting and power quality investigations.
  • Convert investigation findings into permanent monitoring recommendations.

Practical workflow with IoTWatt 4.0

Deploy PQube 3 Portable to capture the disturbance evidence, use IoTWatt 4.0 to understand operational and energy context, then convert the findings into corrective actions, monitoring dashboards and follow-up improvement projects.

Recommended Deployment Checklist

  • Confirm the voltage system, wiring configuration and monitoring objective.
  • Confirm CT range, CT placement and feeder access before site work.
  • Confirm temporary voltage lead connection points and safety isolation requirements.
  • Confirm the monitoring duration required to capture intermittent events.
  • Decide whether standalone USB operation or network reporting is required.
  • Record site operating conditions during the monitoring period for event correlation.
  • Review waveform records, RMS trends, harmonic levels, conducted emissions and energy profile after retrieval.
