Police have uncovered a drug processing operation following a raid on a luxury condominium unit in Desa ParkCity, Kuala Lumpur, highlighting growing concerns over the misuse of high-end residential properties in prime urban locations.
According to Sentul district police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari, the operation was carried out on Jan 22 at around 9pm. A Chinese couple, aged 46 and 39, were arrested inside the unit after officers found a packet of ketamine weighing approximately 34.9 grammes on a table in the living area.
Subsequent inspections of another room in the apartment led police to a fully set-up drug processing space, complete with equipment and materials believed to be used for the preparation, packaging and storage of illegal substances.
Authorities seized a significant quantity of drugs from the premises, including nearly 1.88kg of ketamine, 380 grammes of methamphetamine, 62 grammes of cocaine and over 7.15kg of MDMA powder. In addition, 10 plastic containers holding liquid suspected to be MDMA, weighing more than 37kg, were discovered hidden inside a wardrobe. The total estimated value of the seized items was RM164,496.
Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had allegedly been operating for about three months and had rented the upscale condominium unit specifically for drug processing activities. Police said the male suspect entered Malaysia in November last year, while the female suspect arrived about a week before the raid. Urine tests showed the woman tested positive for drugs, while her husband tested negative.
Both suspects, who were unemployed and had no prior criminal records, possessed valid travel documents and were in the country on visit visas. They have been remanded until Jan 29 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
From a property market perspective, the case underscores the importance of strict tenant screening and property management, particularly in premium commercial property in KL and high-density urban developments. As Kuala Lumpur and Selangor continue to see strong demand for residential, office space in Bukit Jalil, and mixed-use developments, landlords and investors are increasingly mindful of safeguarding asset integrity—much like owners of industrial land in Selangor, factory premises in Puchong, and industrial property in the Subang area, where compliance and monitoring remain critical.
