A CRAC unit typically uses a Direct Expansion (DX) refrigeration cycle. It draws hot air from the server racks (usually through the top of the unit), cools it over a refrigerant coil, and discharges the chilled air into a pressurized plenum—often beneath a Raised Access Floor.
Sensible Heat Focus: Servers produce almost exclusively "sensible" heat (dry heat). CRAC units are engineered with high-surface-area coils to maximize sensible cooling while minimizing unnecessary dehumidification.
