1. How a CRAC System Works

A CRAC unit typically uses a Direct Expansion (DX) refrigeration cycle. It draws hot air from the server racks (usually through the top of the unit), cools it over a refrigerant coil, and discharges the chilled air into a pressurized plenum—often beneath a Raised Access Floor.
