2026 Proton S70 MC1 Launched with More Power and New Tech

Proton has officially unveiled the 2026 Proton S70 MC1, introducing a major powertrain upgrade while retaining its value-driven pricing strategy. The updated sedan continues to be offered in four variants — Executive, Premium, Flagship and Flagship X — with on-the-road prices (without insurance) starting at RM68,800 for the Executive, RM74,800 for the Premium, RM84,800 for the Flagship and RM89,800 for the Flagship X, inclusive of a RM5,000 early bird rebate.

The most significant enhancement comes under the hood. The S70 MC1 now features a 1.5-litre BHE15-EFZ i-GT turbocharged direct-injected four-cylinder engine, replacing the previous three-cylinder unit. The new engine produces 181 PS at 5,500 rpm and 290 Nm of torque between 2,000 and 3,500 rpm, representing a 31 PS and 64 Nm increase over its predecessor. Power is delivered through a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT), enabling the sedan to sprint from 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, a significant improvement from the previous 9.6 seconds. Despite the added performance, fuel efficiency has improved to a claimed 5.7L/100 km (17.5 km/L), marking an 8.1% gain over the outgoing model.

Ownership benefits remain competitive, with the S70 MC1 backed by a five-year unlimited mileage warranty, along with six free labour services. Buyers will also receive a five-year in-car data package offering 2GB per month, supporting connected features within the vehicle.

Exterior revisions are subtle but noticeable. The updated model adopts new LED headlights, though the previous start-up animation has been removed. The turn indicators are now conventional bulb units rather than integrated within the daytime running lights. The Flagship variant receives redesigned 17-inch alloy wheels, and all variants now ride on GitiComfort F22 tyres. Meanwhile, the Flagship X stands out with a black sporty bodykit, sunroof and front DVR, adding a more aggressive visual identity.

Inside, the cabin layout remains largely unchanged, but equipment levels differ between variants. The Executive and Premium variants come with an 8-inch infotainment screen and analogue instrument cluster, and notably do not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto connectivity. Upholstery is fabric for the Executive and leatherette for the Premium.

Stepping up to the higher trims brings more advanced features. The Flagship and Flagship X are equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and now support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto — a feature not available on the pre-facelift model. Proton has confirmed that this connectivity update will not be extended to older S70 units. Additional premium features include a wireless charger, 360-degree camera system and powered driver’s seat.

Safety remains a strong point across the range. All variants are equipped with six airbags, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning and Door Opening Warning as standard. The Flagship and Flagship X further enhance safety with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centring Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking.

The 2026 S70 MC1 is available in Quartz Black, Snow White, Space Grey, Marine Blue, Armour Silver and Ruby Red, with Ruby Red replacing Passion Red, while Teal Bayou Green has been discontinued.

With a substantial performance upgrade, improved fuel efficiency and the addition of wireless smartphone connectivity, the 2026 Proton S70 MC1 reinforces its position as a competitive contender in the B-segment sedan market while maintaining its accessible pricing structure.
